Project Management
We apply our project management processes to the jobs that we take on and as a specialist service for clients.
Risk analysis forms a key part of this process helping us not only identify potential problems but to be pro-active in the development of mitigation plans.
In brief our framework is based upon four key components;
Scoping
Project goals are clearly defined and articulated so that the entire project team has an understanding of what is to be delivered to the user. An explicit and up-front discussion on project goals, priorities, and constraints is encouraged.
A creative approach to the possibilities for delivery and user engagement is taken.
This is a process of clarification where Path will work closely with all relevant members of the project team to formalise stakeholder requirements, metrics for success, user scenarios and profiling.
Requirements specification
The project is detailed in all aspects for the benefit of all.
End-users needs and requirements are analysed and profiled. The end product is defined in detail.
A thorough approach at this stage is invaluable in ensuring that all parties have a clear understanding of the intended outcome, functional and architecture documents can be precisely written and a risk and dependency analysis carried out.
Development
All deliverables go through production including visual design, application and database development. Editorial and supporting documentation is written. Quality assurance and usability are ongoing through this stage.
Release
The core technologies and components are implemented after testing, updating and user education takes place. Final customer approval of the project is obtained. A project review and maintenance assessment are carried out.
New Media — Web
Dynamic
We develop technically advanced, accessible and highly flexible web systems based on open source technologies.
A brief list of features includes,
- Speed of page delivery
- Speed of search
- Comprehensive administration access including freetext editing, page creation, XML and file upload
- Directory and mailing list functions
- Question and Answer user feedback functions
- Stable, robust and highly secure
- Access control systems with username, ip and certificate options
- Fully templated with high degress of separation between content and structure
- Standards based with conformance to WAI, WCAG
- Integration with credit-card payment to control access and document delivery
- Handles complex text formatting such as journal references and reference linking
Static
Where requirements are simple or budgets are tight a static (non-database driven) site can be very effective. We use an elegant (from the coding perspective) templating system to speed development and updating.
Flash
We use Flash where clients require a more interactive user interface but also create innovative applications, for instance, bringing interactivity to large amounts of reference material and images.
New Media — CD-ROM and DVD
As with web projects we tailor the solution to the requirements.
Solutions we implement include,
- Straightforward but effective HTML structures
- Feature rich and technically advanced Director applications including fast and flexible search that handles very large amounts of content
- DVD creation, editing and mastering for computer and/or television
Product development
This can be seen as an extension or component of the project management process. We work with clients to bring projects to development and the market. This is often provided for clients who have either limited in-house resources or experience in handling complex digital, traditional print or combined projects.
Print consultancy
We have vast experience in traditional print production and provide consultancy that includes,
- Production management consultancy including systems implementation
- Convergent production workflows
- Researching and selecting suppliers
- Project planning
our sister company DeepEnd Training provides specialist course in many aspects of publishing including production.
